Our beginners' reading class is designed for thsoe without prior knowledge of Hebrew and those in need of a review.  Participants in the 2009-2010 Adult B'nai Mitzvah class must have basic Hebrew skills.

LEAVING BABYLON, RETURNING TO THE PROMISED LAND

In 538 BCE, Jews were permitted to leave Babylon and a new journey bgan.  The Torah and Talmud were compiled.  Rabbinic Judaism and Christianity were born.  Delve into this period of change and rebellion.

A TASTE OF JUDAISM

This 16-week course will be sponsored and taught by URJ at our Temple.  It is geared to those who are curious about the basics of Judaism, people considering conversion to Judaism, and those planning to participate in our 2009-2010 Adult B'nai Mitzvah course.

COOL NIGHTS IN THE TROPE-ICS

Learn the art of chanting Torah. Cantor will use a step-by-step approach for teaching the different t'amim (trope signs).  A good reading knowledge of Hebrew is essential. 

PIRKE AVOT

Pirke Avot
as "The words of our Fathers." It transmits insights of the leading rabbis of different generations, a "Bartlett's of Judaism."  Brad Gerstle will bring to life the words of our sages. 

THE TALLIT: HISTORY & HANDS ON

Learn the origins of the prayer shawl: why it is worn; the purpose of the fringes.  Then, under Ronni's guidance, create your own silky tallit which you can proudly wear to Temple.

ADULT B'NAI MITZVAH CLASS 2009-2010
Did you miss out on becoming a Bar/Bat Mitzvah?  Then this one-year program is for you.  The prerequisites:
1- Completion of Basic Judaism Class (starts Jan 8) or its equivalent
1- Ability to decode Hebrew words (Beginners Hebrew starts Nov 5)
